GREAT RESULT FOR E TEAM

We went to Stockport knowing we would be heavily out-graded and weren't disappointed, the differences were between 27 and 44 and a total of 156!  I remained disappointed finishing when first losing to Peter King.  I came out of the opening having played my Kings Indian Defence reasonably well only to blunder my QP and ended up crushed.

My mood improved when I saw that on the other boards my team were performing rather better.  Trefor seemed to have a drawn position but it was some time before his opponent agreed this was the case.  Peter Kelly was also playing very well against Ian Anderson whose grade is certainly not in line with others on fifth board in this division.  After a closed opening position Peter had a slight advantage and eventually promoted a pawn.  At this point Ian resigned.

Tony had a difficult struggle with his Alekhine opening but his opponent John Kelly had a poor pawn structure. Tony won a pawn, exchanged some pieces and John resigned when Tony won a second pawn.  All square.

Jeff played a Grand Prix attack against Marc Jackson who was visibly upset when Jeff found a good outpost on e5 for his knight.  Marc got into further trouble when he put his queen on b8 to attack the black diagonal but this blocked his rook in on a8, leaving both major pieces offside. As a result Jeff went into the endgame with RB and 5pawns against RB and 2.  Despite some clever play by Marc Jeff won comfortably.

Well done the four of you!
