In a freezing cold Altrincham chess club our C team pulled off what was at one stage an unlikely looking win. Tony lost to a player who has given me a lot of trouble in the past and then Andy drew with the Black pieces on Board 6. Meanwhile I was busy showing that I could get a bad position with both 1e4 and 1d4 on succesive nights. Facing a big Kingside attack I found a resource that allowed me to escape with a perpetual check. On Board 2 Ioannis demonstrated total control in the way that really strong players do to defeat a very experienced opponent. So 2-2 ...but Sid who was involved in an epic struggle had just lost a Bishop for limited compensation and Sarah, who had made a serious positional blunder before the game started by leaving her coat in the car, looked totally lost. And then in the twinkle of an eye everything changed .....as in a frantic time struggle Sid reached a drawn position and Sarahs opponent overlooked a devastating Knight fork. So by the narrowest of margins Marple triumphed.........Many thanks to all who played.
Glenn.
